Libya's national assembly has approved legislation to double the value of state benefit payments to widowed, divorced and disabled citizens.

The governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL) says that Libya will deposit $2bn (LD2.5bn) in Egypt from its existing investments in the country, and claims the money is "not a loan."

Following conflicting claims in recent weeks, the Libyan government has indeed agreed to give Egypt an interest-free loan of $2bn (LD2.5bn), according to the Egyptian state news agency.

As Egypt agrees to extradite several senior Gaddafi regime officials, reports suggest that Libya will deposit $2bn (LD2.5bn) in the country and may favour Egypt in construction contracts.
