A group of industry authorities met in Tobruk’s Al Batnan district on 8 February to follow up on the establishment of industrial zones in the district, Al Jamahiriya reported.

Egyptian and Libyan officials have agreed to establish a joint industrial zone in Libya, following a meeting between the Egyptian Minister of Trade and Industry, Mohamed Rachid, and the Libyan Minister of Economy, Industry and Trade, Mohamed Al Hweij.  

The General Authority for Industrial Zones (IZA) has provided an update on the zones planned in the first phase of its nationwide programme.

Egypt’s El Sewedy Cables will open a manufacturing plant in Libya by the end of 2011, the company told Reuters. 

In late April Italian defence firm Finmeccanica opened a helicopter assembly and maintenance factory as a joint venture with the Libyan government.

The Egyptian paint maker, Pachin, says it plans to start production in Libya in January 2010 as it tries to tap growing construction demand in the country.
